Nevertheless, the majority of employers (71%) are confident that a successful photograph in a resume significantly helps in finding a job. At the same time, 34% of recruiters believe that a good photo can help any job seeker, and 37% - only applicants for positions where appearance matters.

Of course, the photo is unlikely to play a key role in considering your candidacy: experience, knowledge and skills are certainly more important than the correct facial features, and all recruiters emphasize this. But the photographs are quite capable of distinguishing you from many other applicants, drawing attention to your candidacy. In search of the most suitable candidate, the HR manager sometimes conducts dozens of interviews, and the image attached to your CV will certainly help him remember who he talked so productively with last week.

But for the photo to work for you, and not against you, you need to choose the right picture. Indeed, according to experts, the wrong photo can nullify the impression of even the best resume. Conversely, an open, friendly and disposed person in the picture in some cases can tighten the impression that has developed about the candidate after reading his CV. Moreover, in order to take a suitable photo, you do not need to have stunning external data.

How to choose a photo for the resume? In order not to face the dirt, it is enough to observe a few simple rules.

The situation in the photo and your appearance should be working and characterize you precisely as a specialist. If you apply for an office position (manager, clerk, department head, top manager, etc.), then it is better to take a picture in the office, in business clothes - so that the employer can introduce you to your work. You should not pose in full growth, it is better to focus on the face, because it is it that best reflects your character.

However, photography in a business setting does not always mean a formal suit, tie and office walls. If you apply for a creative position - for example, a journalist, singer, designer, radio host, etc., your photo should be appropriate. Why not introduce to your potential employer, for example, footage of your speech or broadcast? The main requirement: no matter how creative the situation in the frame, the focus should still be your face.

But photographs “like a passport” are unlikely to greatly help you impress your employer. The face on them, of course, is visible, but the charm of a person remains behind the scenes. Meanwhile, it is the disposable smile that is the main decoration of the photograph attached to the resume.

Another snapshot requirement for CVs is good quality. A photo taken carelessly is more likely to cause bewilderment for the recruiter than to add points.

Finally, a few words about what should in no case be a photograph for a resume. First of all, avoid overly informal surroundings in the frame. An applicant for the post of chief accountant, shot at home with a cat in his hands, is likely to lose in the eyes of the employer, even if his resume is of interest to the company. Therefore, do not accompany the description of your work journey with photographs taken at home, in nature, on the beach (unless, of course, you are a lifeguard) or with animals (unless you are a veterinarian).

Pay attention to your clothes. Take pictures of what they recommend going to interviews. Obviously, open shirts and tops are not the best choice if your goal is to please the employer.

No matter how proud you are of your figure, you do not need to take a full-length photo, unless, of course, you are looking for a model's job. This distracts attention from the face and switches it to interior details and clothing. In no case do not send to the employer group pictures with the signature like “I am third in the middle left row”. Such an application to the resume may well cause the recruiter to doubt your adequacy, even if the resume is of interest to him.

Finally, avoid the appearance of all kinds of brands and logos in the frame, because you are trying to “sell” yourself, and not emphasize the achievements of the company in which you once worked. Experts recommend: if in doubt whether you have chosen a successful photo for your resume, it’s better not to rush to submit it. After all, the task of photography is to add to you chances of successful employment, and not to reduce them.
